The Pima Air & Space Museum is one of the largest aerospace museums in the world, with nearly 400 aircraft spread across some 80 acres on Tucson's south side. From a World War II bomber to a presidential aircraft and a towering SR-71 Blackbird, the collection traces the whole arc of flight — indoors in climate-controlled hangars and outside across the desert display fields.
The museum sits next to the legendary "Boneyard," the military's vast aircraft storage and preservation facility at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. Bus tours of the Boneyard can sometimes be booked through the museum and require advance reservation and ID; check current availability and requirements before you count on it.
Plan for at least half a day, and note that much of the collection is outdoors — go early and bring sun protection in warm months. It's a straightforward drive from most Tucson rentals, and a hit with kids and aviation buffs alike.
